Do We See our Duty? Do we understand our Name?

I just see the same things happening over and over. People on the outside are behaving more Christ-like than those in the inside of the church. I wrote this poem because I was getting sick of the hypocrisy and the lies- we have to put our pride to the side and start representing Jesus-not just by the common hand signs and the supposedly ‘Christian beats’ but representing Him through our lives. Do we honestly see our duty? Do we truly understand our name? Maybe if we did-things wouldn’t be the same.

I'm sick of the constant teaching and preaching

i think we've sat in our church pews too long

warming up the seats

when we should be reaching.

But I think the seats are getting cold,

our message growing old.

The prophecy has been foretold.

Marriages are breaking up

Families are tearing apart

but all this must have had some start.

Theres a neighbour who needs just a little love

the stranger just needs a place to stay

what do our words really proclaim

when the naked man will die tonight?

Do we see our duty?

Do we understand our name?

If people looked at us, would they think Christians now days are insane?

The people in the third-world are dying

but our own church members are crying.

We don't even notice the people closest to us hurting

Let alone how are we to reach out to the foreigners who are seeking?

We carry empty words as we drive

to and from church.

We beep the horn,

shout colourful words

then we complain why the world has gone wrong

When we should seek out our own actions.

the question is where did WE go wrong?

Theres a neighbour who needs just a little love

the stranger just needs a place to stay

what do our words really proclaim

when the naked man will die tonight?

Do we see our duty?

Do we understand our name?

If people looked at us, would they think Christians now days are insane?

The whole world would be Christian if we lived to its standards.

No one, let alone Christ accepts any high standards

He just wants us to live up our words

Reach the unreachable

touch the untouchable

We are to recognise 'Christ' in the word 'CHRIST'ians

Imagine having Christ written upon everything we do?

Will that be enough to get us out of our church pews?

The pastor's been preaching by himself for way to long

where are we to write our own song?

This song won't, alone, get us to do the work of a true Christian

but it might be a start for us to be making a world of a difference.

Theres a neighbour who needs just a little love

the stranger just needs a place to stay

what do our words really proclaim

when the naked man will die tonight?

Do we see our duty?

Do we understand our name?

If people looked at us, would they think Christians now days are insane?

IF GOD LOOKED AT US, WOULD HE THINK THAT HIS FOLLOWERS ARE INSANE?
